Black Bears Lose Playoff Opener 3-1 to Corvallis

August 12, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Longview: Trevor Frank (U.Cal. Riverside) pitched a complete game two hit, one run game to put the Black Bears backs against the wall going into game two of the best of three game series Saturday night.

Cole Irvin (Oregon) pitched a great seven innings for the Cowlitz Black Bears, but 3 singles and an untimely error gave Corvallis two runs in the first inning and the Knights made it stand up for a 3 - 1 victory. The Black Bears lone run came in the second inning when Bud Collura (Clark CC/ So. Alabama) singled, was forced by Derrick Salberg (Kelso/LCC), who then scored when Knights right fielder Nick Torres (Cal. Poly), dropped Kyle Kuck's (Santa Ana/Cal. St. San Marcos) fly ball at the warning track in right center field. But that was the only threat the Black bears could muster as Frank was outstanding the rest of the way.

The Black Bears next game is Sunday, August 12th. at 6:05pm at Goss Stadium in Corvallis. They need a win against the Knights to remain alive in the playoffs. If the Black Bears win two from the Knights their next home game would be Wednesday August 15th for the first game of the Championship Series with the East Division winner. 2012 playoff tickets are avilable for that game by calling (360) 703-3195 or please visit us on-line at www.cowlitzblackbears.com.
