Black Bears Lose Heartbreaker in 10th

July 7, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Wenatchee: The Cowlitz Black Bears began the game determined to avoid a repeat of the previous night's blowout loss. They scored first, bringing two across in the top of the second inning. After that, the game took on a here-we-go-again feel as Wenatchee answered with seven runs in the bottom of the 3rd.

But this game would not be like yesterday. Matt Maurer (Pepperdine) settled down after the Wenatchee explosion to pitch 3 1/3 more innings before yielding to Richi Sandoval (New Mexico Highland), who combined with Andrew Lines (UC-Irvine) to hold their hosts to those 7 runs after 9 innings.

The team was better at the plate, picking away at the lead until Brent Graham (LCC) tied the game with a RBI ground out in the 8th. With the score tied in the 9th, the Bears stranded Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) at third base.

In the bottom half of the 10th Wenatchee got their leadoff man to second via the Black Bears' first error in the series. He then scored after Payden Cawley Lamb drove the ball to the wall in centerfield for the walk-off win.

The team looks to salvage the final game of the series tomorrow at 7:05 pm. The team returns home to play the Klamath Falls Gems this Friday through Sunday. On Las Rocas Fabulous Friday the world-famous Myron Noodleman will entertain fans between innings at Story Field thanks to Longview Sewing and Beecher-Carlson Insurance.
