Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
The Klamath Falls Gems today announced the hiring of Cowlitz Black Bears Assistant Coach Josh Hogan as the team's Head Coach. Hogan will replace John Welker, who served as the Gems' interim Head Coach for more than half of the 2011 season.
"He's energetic, knows the game, and has the contacts to bring top college players to the Gems," said Cowlitz general manager Grant Wilson. "Their fans are going to love Josh."
Hogan, 23, is a graduate of Churchill High School in Eugene, where he was a two-sport athlete, playing baseball for head coach Eric Hoberg and football for head coach Darrel Mehl. After his senior baseball season Hogan was named first team All-State and the Midwestern League Player of the Year. He helped the Lancers to three straight Midwestern League championships. He then played two years at Mt. Hood Community College, where he earned first-team All-Conference honors, before joining George Horton's program as a player at Oregon in 2009. He joined the coaching staff under Horton after the 2009 season. Hogan was the Assistant Coach under Bryson LeBlanc for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
