Black Bears Fall 4-3 in Kitsap

June 3, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release

Kitsap: June 3, 2012: So much for the law of averages... After two consecutive one-run losses, the Black Bears carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning only to have the Kitsap Blue Jackets put together back-to-back RBI singles to rally for yet another victory by the slimmest of margins.

For the second night in a row, the Black Bears got a stellar performance from their starting pitcher. Ryan McCarthy dazzled in four scoreless innings, striking out four while allowing only a walk and two hits. Cowlitz took the lead when Brian Frattali delivered a run-scoring single in the fifth. After Kitsap added a run in both the fifth and seventh innings, the Black Bears found themselves trailing by a run.

However, just as they had all series, the Black Bears showed considerable resolve. Nick Paxton singled home a run in the eighth and also scored an unearned run to put the Black Bears ahead. Leko Galusha was unable to hold the lead though as the Blue Jackets forged ahead for good in the bottom half of the frame.

It was another good performance at the plate for the Black Bears. They recorded 10 hits as a team, including three from Brian Frattali for the second game in a row. Derrick Salberg, Kyle Kuck, and Austin Wobrock each had multiple hit games as well.

The Black Bears next game is Tuesday's home opener presented by Longview Fibre Paper & Packaging. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a magnetic schedule presented by Three Rivers Mall. A post game firework display will light up the night sky.
