Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Kitsap: Stuart Fewel (LCC) got the start for the Cowlitz Black Bears looking to avoid the sweep in their first series of West Coast League action.
Following the form of the previous two games, the Black Bears' nine hits on the night were spread over five separate innings, but only produced runs in two of them. In the third, Cowlitz followed a one out double by Derek Atkinson with three consecutive singles that produced two runs. The fifth inning saw the Black Bears take a 3-2 lead on an RBI double by Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon).
Fewel gave up all four Blue Jackets runs (one unearned), while striking out three and walking one in six frames of work. Cole Thompson, his Kitsap counterpart, matched him inning for inning but gave up just three runs (all earned) in addition to eight hits, two walks, and one strikeout.
Tomorrow, June 10th, the team takes on the Walla Walla Sweets in what will be the home league opener. First pitch is set for 6:35, and Black Bears alumni (and recent MLB draftee) Chris Dennis will be on hand for the first pitch.
At the game it will be the second âLas Rocas Fabulous Friday' along with Budweiser Cap Night where the first 100 adults will receive a Budweiser Cap. After the game, fans are invited to Play Catch With Dad on the field.
