Bishop named AFL Offensive Player of the Week

Grand Rapids Rampage quarterback Michael Bishop has been named the AFL Offensive Player of the Week for his 342 total yards and seven touchdowns in the team's stunning 58-52 victory over Central Division-leading Colorado last Saturday night.

Bishop completed 25-of-31 passes (80.7%) for 310 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions against the Crush. The former Heisman Trophy runner-up also rushed five times for 32 yards with two ground scores.

He leads the AFL in rushing attempts (68), rushing yards (414), yards per rush (6.1) and rushing touchdowns (16). His 414 yards are the second most in AFL history for a single season behind Major Harris' 429 in 1991 with the Columbus Thunderbolts. In just 17 career AFL games, Bishop is 32nd all-time and 4th among quarterbacks in AFL history with 465 career rushing yards. Bishop's 16 rushing TDs this season are the second-most by a QB behind Adrian McPherson's 19 last season with the Indiana Firebirds.

This marks the first time a Rampage player has been named AFL Offensive Player of the Week. Prior to the 2004 season, the award was known as the AFL Most Valuable Player of the Week. Former QB Clint Dolezel was the only Grand Rapids player ever to earn that distinction and he got it three times in a Rampage uniform (twice in 2001, once in 2002).

Bishop and the Rampage head south to the Music City to take on the Nashville Kats this Saturday night. The game will feature the AFL Offensive Player of the Week (Bishop) and the AFL Defensive Player of the Week) Nashville's Kahlil Carter. Kickoff is slated for 8:30pm EDT and will be televised on Fox Sports Detroit.

In other Rampage news, the team has released quarterback Nick Browder, lineman Hardy Mitchell and waived lineman Sean Powell.
