AFL names players of the week

NEW YORK – Los Angeles Avengers wide receiver/defensive back KEVIN INGRAM, Grand Rapids Rampage quarterback MICHAEL BISHOP and Nashville Kats defensive specialist KAHLIL CARTER have been named U.S. Army Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 14 of the 2005 season. The announcement was made live on ESPNews this afternoon.

U.S. ARMY IRONMAN: Ingram (6-0, 195, West Chester), who is in his fifth season, led the Western Division-leading Los Angeles Avengers (8-5) over the Arizona Rattlers (8-4) in Saturday's 59-56 victory at Staples Center. On offense, he had six receptions for 37 yards and two touchdowns. On special teams, he added four returns for 74 yards. Defensively, Ingram had 5.5 total tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. This marks the second time that the All-Arena performer has earned an AFL weekly honor.

OFFENSIVE: Bishop (6-2, 220, Kansas State) lead the Rampage (2-11) in their 58-52 victory over the AFLWA's No. 4-ranked Colorado Crush (8-5) on Saturday at Van Andel Arena. He had 342 total offensive yards with seven scores and moved to second all-time in single-season rushing yards (414). The former Heisman Trophy runner-up completed 25-of-31 (80.7%) passes for 310 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions. Bishop added 32 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. This marks the first time the former Wildcat has earned an AFL weekly honor.

ADT DEFENSIVE: Carter (6-0, 195, Southern Arkansas) helped lead the Nashville Kats (5-7-1) to a 57-55 victory over the AFLWA's No. 1-ranked San Jose SaberCats (8-5) on Saturday at HP Pavilion at San Jose. The third-year veteran recorded seven solo tackles and two assists, while hauling in two interceptions – one in each half. This marks the first time the former af2 Defensive Player of the Year (2003) has earned an AFL weekly honor.

U.S. Army Ironman of the Week candidates included: Austin's Kevin Nickerson, Chicago's Bob McMillen, Grand Rapids' Dialleo Burks, New York's DaShane Dennis, Philadelphia's Marcus Knight, San Jose's Rodney Wright and Tampa Bay 's Anthony Derricks.

Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Chicago's Raymond Philyaw, Columbus' Damien Groce, Los Angeles' Tony Locke, Nashville's Leon Murray, New York's Aaron Garcia, Philadelphia's Tony Graziani and Tampa Bay's Matt George.

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Austin's Cedric Walker, Grand Rapids' Damon Mason, Las Vegas' Steve Konopka, Los Angeles' Silas Demary, New York's Billy Parker, Philadelphia's Mario Branch and Tampa Bay's Jonathan Ordway.
