Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL - One of the longest BayBears games of the season went to Montgomery 11-8, in front of an Independence Day crowd of 5,347 at Hank Aaron Stadium. Montgomery scored 11 times on ten hits, taking advantage of four BayBears errors. The BayBears are now in third place, four games behind first place Jacksonville.

With the BayBears leading 5-3 in the seventh, Montgomery sent 11 batters to the plate against three different BayBears pitchers, and scored six times. After a Javier Brito RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, and an error by Montgomery left fielder Patrick Breen, the BayBears were down 9-7, but that was as close as they would come late in the game, losing their third straight.

Greg Smith pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits in a no-decision for the BayBears. Javier Brito was 3-for-5 with two doubles, and Josh Ford hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Montgomery hit two home runs in the game, including Matt Spring's second home run of the season, which fell out of a leaping Justin Upton's glove when Upton hit the left field wall.

The BayBears and Montgomery play Thursday at 7:05, with Esmerling Vasquez (6-4) pitching against Montgomery's All-Star Chris Mason (10-4).
