Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (32-29) picked up their eighth straight win, rallying to defeat the first-place Chattanooga Lookouts (33-28), 12-7, Friday on Ladies Night at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery scored seven runs in the fourth, snatching the lead from Chattanooga once and for all.
Despite a scoreless first frame, Biscuits' starting pitcher J.D. Martin was unable to silence the Lookouts' bats. Chattanooga scored six runs in the first four innings, two of which were plated on a double by Zander Wiel in the third.
An Edgar Corcino RBI-single chased Martin, who was relieved by Travis Ott (2-1), in the fourth. With a runner on third and one out, Ott struck out a pair, subduing the threat.
Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the third, Montgomery's offense was finally able to get a hit off Lookouts' starter Lewis Thorpe (2-4). Mike Brosseau began the inning, doubling on a line drive for the first hit. Jake Cronenworth plated the Biscuits' first run with an RBI-double prior to Ryan Boldt continuing the barrage, drawing Montgomery within three via an RBI-single.
Hitters continued to bombard Thorpe in the fourth. Brett Sullivan sparked a seven-run outburst with a lead-off walk. A Thorpe wild pitch made the score 6-3 before Peter Maris recorded his first Double-A hit and RBI.
Trailing by two, Boldt knotted the game at six with a two-run single. Tampa Bay Rays' number 11 prospect Nick Solak ignited the Riverwalk Stadium crowd, blasting a three-run home run to thrust Montgomery ahead 9-6.
As the Biscuits persisted to pepper the Lookouts' pitching, a combination of Ott, Roel Ramirez and Jordan Harrison controlled Chattanooga, allowing a sole run over the final 5.2 innings.
Montgomery would plate a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh, advancing the lead to 12-6.
Although Chattanooga scored their seventh run on a Ramirez wild pitch in the eighth, the final five Lookouts were retired in order, propelling Montgomery within one game of first place in the Southern League North Division.
The Biscuits continue a five-game homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. on Harry Potter Night, which features a jersey auction and MAX fireworks, at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits will start Genesis Cabrera (5-3), who had a career-high 12 strikeouts in his last start, while Chattanooga will offer Omar Bencomo (4-0).
The final home series of the first half also includes Sundae Sunday Ice Cream Social on June 10 and Agriculture Night on Monday, June 11. The five-game set concludes with Summer Splash Day on Tuesday, June 12.
