Alabama Steeldogs News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. â One of the most prolific receivers in the history of the Birmingham Steeldogs is back in the fold.
Detronn Harris, who ranks seventh all-time in receiving yards and touchdowns, will suit up for the Steeldogs just in time for the team's home opener on Saturday, April 9.
"Detronn brings both talent and experience to our team this season," Steeldogs Head Coach Bobby Humphrey said. "He could very well be that final puzzle piece that puts us in position to make a title run."
Harris played in nine games for the Steeldogs in 2004. He finished with 766 yards on 47 catches and scored 14 touchdowns. Serving also as the team's primary kick returner, Harris returned 23 kicks for 552 yards (24 yards per return) and three touchdowns. He finished second on the team in scoring with 126 points, despite missing the final eight games of the season.
Harris' final game of 2004 came on June 5 versus Columbus, where he caught seven passes for 109 yards and scored two touchdowns. Soon thereafter, Harris was invited to participate in the Carolina Panthers 2004 training camp, where he survived until the final cut.
The Steeldogs are just days away from kicking off their sixth historic season in the Magic City. The season's first game against the San Diego Riptide will be Saturday, April 9 at 7 p.m. inside the BJCC Arena. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 205.715.6000.
