Florida remains on top in week two poll

Published on April 6, 2005 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Florida Firecats garnered 179 of a possible 228 points to hold on to the No. 1 ranking in the weekly Coaches poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. This is the second straight week that Florida has been voted No. 1.

The Firecats total included 10 first-place votes, up two from last week. The Memphis Xplorers held on to second place with 167 points and three first place votes. Climbing to third this week was the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers with 158 points and four first place mentions. Other teams that received first place votes this week include the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (1), the South Georgia Wildcats (1) and the Amarillo Dusters (1).

The Week 2 schedule features five matchups of Top 12 teams. Florida takes their No. 1 ranking on the road to No. 12 Manchester on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The No. 2 Xplorers take on the No. 9 Dusters on Friday at 8:00 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center. No. 8 San Diego plays at No. 10 Birmingham on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Also on Saturday night, the No. 5 Dorados host the No. 6 Fire at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday afternoon the No. 3 Pioneers face-off against the No. 4 Quad City Steamwheelers at 4:00 p.m. All times Eastern.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
