Billy returns to Lions following two Arena tryouts

COLUMBUS, GA, February 21 -- Former Georgia Tech defensive lineman Omar Billy is in camp with the Columbus Lions after extended looks with the Arena Football League's Colorado Crush and Kansas City Brigade. Billy will practice Thursday and Friday outdoors with the team at Memorial Stadium and will make the trip to Daytona Beach for Monday's opening road game against the Thunder.
"We know Omar is a good player, despite being new to the indoor game," said Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. "As we keep picking up big-time talent, we elevate the level of professionalism of our team. The players arriving from AFL camps breed competition in our practices and make everyone better."
The Lions practiced tonight at Comer Recreation Center, since today's steady rains left their practice field slick and muddy. "We're not playing any games outdoors, so I don't see any point in practicing on a wet field," said Gibson. "The last time we did it, we had some muscle pulls and minor, but aggravating injuries."
Gibson is not quite through finalizing the Lions roster, which consists of 20 active spots and five on the practice squad. He also may list up to five players as inactive or injured. The final roster must be submitted to the World Indoor Football League office by Friday. The roster as it stands tonight (jersey numbers not all yet assigned):
