NLL National Lacrosse League

Billings & Grant Co-Winners of NLL March Player of the Month

April 5, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

For the first time in 2012, the National Lacrosse League Player of the Month Award will be shared.

Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr. and Toronto Rock forward Garrett Billings are co-winners of the monthly award while Adam Jones of the Mammoth is the winner of the Rookie of the Month Award for March.

Grant, who had been named Player of the Month for January and February, led the Mammoth to a 3-1 record in games he played in while amassing 39 points (16 goals, 23 assists) with 22 loose balls despite missing two games with an upper-body injury.

In Colorado's final two games of the month, both on the road, Grant accounted for six goals and 17 assists. On March 23 in Denver, Grant posted a six-goal game in a 13-12 loss to Philadelphia.

Billings had 11 goals, 33 assists and 34 loose balls in five games with the Rock going 2-3 in March. He closed out the month by setting a new single-game record for Toronto with 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in a 15-9 win over Buffalo on Saturday.

Jones was selected as the top rookie of the month for the second time after taking the honor in January.

He notched 12 goals with 21 assists and 30 loose balls as the Mammoth went 4-2 in March. The third overall pick in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft also was named the NLL's Rookie of the Week twice during the previous month.

Jones had an assist on the game-winning goal in a 16-13 victory over Buffalo on March 3, and scored 9:38 into overtime of a 16-15 win over Philadelphia on March 25 to salvage a split of the weekend series with the Wings.

Overall, the Mammoth went 4-2 in March and are tied with Calgary for the league's best record at 10-3.

The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
