Bighorns Defeat Bakersfield in First Road Game

RENO, NEV - The Bighorns got their first win of the season Sunday night with a 123-119 victory over the Bakersfield Jam at the Dignity Health Arena in Bakersfield, CA.

Reggie Hearn and Ricky Ledo led the Bighorns with 30 points each. Hearn finished the contest with five rebounds, three assists and went 10-14 from the field and 8-11 from behind the arc. Ledo grabbed nine rebounds while Sundiata Gaines totaled 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Vince Hunter had 18 points and ten rebounds in the nights match-up.

The Bighorns shot 53 percent from the field compared the Jam's 43 percent.

In the first quarter, Hunter led the Bighorns going 3-3 from the field, notching nine points and three assists in the quarter. Gaines knocked down seven points in the quarter and added two rebounds and two assists. Marshall Henderson and Hearn totaled three points each in the first.

Ledo picked up the pace in the second quarter, going 8-12 from the field and scoring 19 points for the Bighorns while grabbing four rebounds. Hunter added five points and totaled five rebounds in the quarter. The Bighorns shot 57 percent from the field compared to the Jam's 50 percent.

The Bighorns went into the locker room at the half trailing the Jam, 57-56. Ledo totaled 21 points and six rebounds in the first half while Hunter finished the first half with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Hearn caught fire and led the way for the Bighorns in the third quarter, notching 16 points and two rebounds. Hearn went 5-6 from the field in the third quarter. Cliff Hammonds , Henderson and Ledo had six points each while Hammonds had six assists in the quarter. The Bighorns outscored the Jam 41-30 in the quarter, and shot 64 percent from the field while the Jam shot 44 percent from the field in the third.

During the fourth, Hearn and Gaines paced the Bighorns with nine points each in the fourth. Gaines grabbed two rebounds while Hammonds added five points for the Bighorns. The Bighorns and the Jam exchanged the lead four times and tied three during the quarter.

The Bighorns continue on the road, facing the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The Bighorns return to the Reno Events Center Sunday, Nov. 22 to host the Santa Cruz Warriors at 6:00 p.m.
