Big Third Period Buries Ice Miners in Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Johnstown Tomahawks evened up the season series with the Keystone Ice Miners at two games a piece with a 5-1 victory at the Cambria County War Memorial on Friday night. Luke Lynch scored twice while Trevor Recktenwald added three assists as the Tomahawks pulled into a tie for fifth in the North Division with Keystone.

Lynch opened the scoring late in the first period when he found himself alone in front of the Ice Miners net. He pulled the puck around Alex Blankenburg and slid home his 7th goal of the season to make it 1-0 after one period of play. Keystone got even in the 2nd period when Jon Hall threw the puck toward the net and it bounced its way past Ryan Bednard. Hall was credited with his 8th goal of the season, with Matt Jones and Taylor Fernandez assisting, Just over four minutes later, Johnstown regained the lead when Ian Spencer netted a powerplay goal - his first of the season, and the score was 2-1 through fourty minues.

In the 3rd, Lynch got a breakaway coming out of the penalty box in the first minute of the frame and extended Johnstown's lead to 3-1. Late insurance tallies by Cam Bleck and Tanner Barnes put the game away for the 5-1 final score. Keystone fell to 12-14-3 and will close out the first half of the season with a home game against the Tomahawks Saturday night at 7:30pm.
