
Big Rock Stadium Host to NJCAA Region X Tournament this Weekend

Morehead City, N.C. - On Friday, Big Rock Stadium will host the National Junior College Athletic Association, Division II, Region 10 Tournament. The tournament will feature eight teams competing in a double elimination bracket, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division 2 World Series in Enid, Oklahoma. 2013 marks the third year in a row that Morehead City has hosted the regional tournament.
Action begins at 10 am on Friday with third seeded Pasco-Hernando Community College (FL.) squaring off against sixth seeded Lenoir CC (NC). At 1 pm, the second seed Brunswick Community College (NC) takes on seventh seeded Rockingham Community College (NC). Fourth seeded Southeastern Community College (NC) plays host to fifth seed Patrick Henry Community College (VA) at 4 pm. The nightcap features the tournament's top seed and defending champ Catawba Valley Community College (NC) against eighth seed Surry Community College (NC). Games will be played at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm, and 7 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The championship game is scheduled for Monday night at 7 pm. "Baseball fans will certainly enjoy the action on the field this weekend as these teams compete for a trip to the NJCAA World Series," said Marlins General Manager Mitch Kluver. "We are ready to kick off baseball season at Big Rock Stadium, and are thrilled to host this tournament once again."

The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 57 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
