Cedar Rapids, IA (December 16, 2003) On March 31, 2003, the Cedar Rapids River Raiders fresh off announcing their debut in the USBL acquired the playing rights of 6'9" â 335lbs - Center Oliver Miller from the well established Dodge City Legend of the USBL. On Saturday, December 13, Oliver Miller received an NBA call up from the Minnesota Timberwolves due to center Michael Olowokandi was placed on the injured list after undergoing right knee surgery.
Miller has played in 8 NBA seasons and helped lead the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals as a rookie. In the past 11 games with the Dakota Wizards (CBA), Miller averaged 16.2 points, 8.7 rebounds per game, 39 assists, 15 steals, and blocking 21 shots. He was also ranked eleventh in scoring, seventh in rebounding and second in blocked shots per game.
The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) in April of 2004 at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.
