Big Inning Propels Quakes Past JetHawks

(LANCASTER, CA) - Rancho Cucamonga scored five runs on four hits and two walks off JetHawks starter Ross Seaton in the top of the fifth and cruised to an 8-3 victory over Lancaster in the opener of a four-game series at Clear Channel Stadium Friday.

For the fourth straight night, Lancaster scored a run in the opening frame to take a 1-0 lead. Brian Pellegrini belted a solo home run off Quakes starter Kyle Hurst.

After Rancho Cucamonga scored a run in the top of the third, the JetHawks answered when Jose Altuve crushed a solo homer to center field, which put Lancaster in front 2-1.

The Quakes scored a run in top of the fourth when Richard Cates ripped an RBI double to even the game at 2-2.

Rancho Cucamonga seized control of the game in the top of the fifth. Seaton (6-13) issued a walk to Alberto Rosario to start the inning and then gave up three consecutive singles, including an RBI single from Darwin Perez. Gabe Jacobo drew a bases-loaded walk and Eric Oliver followed with a three-run double into the right center field gap, which gave the Quakes a 7-2 lead

Hurst (5-3) kept Lancaster‘s offense in check the rest of the way, allowing six hits and three runs, two of which were earned, in eight innings of work.

With the win, Rancho Cucamonga improved to 37-30 in the second half and 76-61 overall. The JetHawks dropped to 30-37 in the second half and 53-84 overall

Lancaster will seek to get back on the winning track on Saturday night against Rancho Cucamonga at Clear Channel Stadium. Right-hander Robert Donovan (1-2, 6.25) gets the start for the JetHawks. The Quakes are expected to counter with right-hander Manaurys Correa (1-10, 6.96).
