El Paso Generals News Release
EL PASO, TX. : The El Paso Generals continued their winning ways on Saturday, July 4 by defeating the Rochester Raiders, 51- 43. Rochester struck first in the ball game with QB Perry Patterson hooking up with WR Rob Mager for a 27-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0. El Paso came storming back when QB Tommy Jones completed two passes to DeAngelo Woodie and A.J. Harris setting up a one-yard touchdown run for Ulysses Odom to tie the ball game at seven. El Paso would go on to score 20 unanswered points with 14 of those points coming in the second quarter. Tommy Jones would register touchdown passes to DeAngelo Woodie and Lemans Casimier while the Generals defense compiled several stops in the first half including two sacks and an interception.
The Rochester defense, which has been one of the more dominant factors for the Raiders this season, had all sorts of problems in containing the Generals offense and they trailed at halftime 27-7. El Paso continued to extend their lead in the second half when Ulysses Odom punched in a two-yard touchdown run to make it 34-7. Rochester was able to find the end-zone on their next possession when Patterson found Mike Maciejewski for a five-yard touchdown pass and with the two-point conversion good, Rochester trailed 34-15.
Rochester would continue their comeback into the fourth quarter when Patterson once again found Rob Mager for a 21-yard touchdown reception. However, El Paso still remained ahead at 37-22. Rochester gathered 14 more points following a Generals score to close the gap at 44-36. The turning point in the ball game came when Rochester's defense made a huge stop and the offense drove the ball down to the El Paso one yard line. However, Perry Patterson fumbled the snap at the two yard line and Generals DL Jermaine Blakely picked up the loose ball to return it 48 yards for a touchdown. That score sealed the Generals sixth consecutive win at 51-43.
The Generals offense had another good night as Tommy Jones threw for three touchdowns and the defense collected three sacks, one interception and a fumble return for a touchdown. El Paso plays their final game of the regular season next week at playoff bound San Angelo on Saturday, July 11. Following that match-up, El Paso will have their bye week and they will host ether San Angelo or Abilene in the second round of the 2009 IFL playoffs.
