Big Comeback Earns Crombie First Win
Former Cyclones' Captain Chris Crombie made his debut as head coach Thursday night as Pee Dee welcomed the Fayetteville FireAntz to town.
The Cyclones got off to a slow start in the first stanza, with netminder Brad Buss giving up three goals by the half-way point of the period. At what seems to have been the turning point in the game, Coach Crombie put in goalie Len DiCostanzo.
Pee Dee came alive in the second period with goals from Geoff Rollins and Chris Rebernik. DiCostanzo kept the FireAntz from striking, keeping the score 3-2 going into the final period.
Edan Welch connected on a powerplay at the 8:02 mark of the third, to even the score three all forcing the teams into overtime.
One minute into OT, Pee Dee's Daryl Moore got a shot past Fayetteville goalie Chad Collins, giving the Cyclones a much-needed win at home.
DiCostanzo received his first win as a Cyclone with 17 saves on 17 shots. The Cyclones will be back in action tomorrow night as the Jacksonville Barracudas come to town. It's "White Out and Rally Towel Night" sponsored by the Jeffers Company, so come and show your support by wearing white. The first 500 fans will receive rally towels!
