Bloomington Thunder News Release
SIOUX CITY, Ia. - The Bloomington Edge fell on the road on Saturday night as the Sioux City Bandits broke open a close game with a big third quarter and captured a 63-39 win at Tyson Event Center.
The teams were even at 14-14 through one quarter as the Edge scored first on a four-yard run by Andre Raymond, then countered a John Bentley one-yard plunge for the Bandits with a 10-yard touchdown run by Edge quarterback Charles Dowdell. The Bandits ran the ensuing kickoff to the Bloomington 11, where Frederick Bruno ran the next play in for the first period tie.
Raymond popped into the end zone from one yard early in the second quarter to put the Edge ahead 21-14, but the Bandits cut the margin to 21-20 on a one-yard pass from Scott Jensen to Lorenzo Brown with 5:01 before halftime. A 47-yard field goal by David Tomis with 1:24 left put the Edge up 24-20, but the hosts took a 27-24 lead into halftime on a 17-yard run by Bentley with 20 seconds remaining.
The Bandits outscored the Edge in the third quarter 29-15 to take a 56-39 lead into the fourth quarter on a 14-yard pass from Jensen to Brown, a two-yard run by Bentley, a 41-yard return of a missed field goal by Bruno and a safety by Darius Davis. The two Edge scores in the period were a six-yard pass from Dowdell to De'Andre Eagle early to cut the deficit to 34-31 and a 14-yard pass from Dowdell to David Brown.
