Tampa Yankees News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - A couple of home runs and solid pitching led the Tampa Yankees (14-15) to a 4-1 win in the series opener over the St. Lucie Mets (17-10) on Sunday night a George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Dante Bichette Jr. crushed a two-run home run into the Walgreens Deck in right field in the fourth inning, giving Tampa a 2-1 lead. The Yankees added to their lead in the sixth when Eric Jagielo blasted a solo home run over the short porch in right.
The T-Yanks received another good start from Miguel Sulbaran (2-1). The southpaw allowed one run on four hits in five innings of work, walking three and striking out four.
Sulbaran got two quick outs in the first before finding trouble. L.J. Mazilli belted a solo home run to left field, giving the Mets an early lead. A walk, a ground-rule double and another walk loaded the bases before Sulbaran induced a fielder's choice ground ball to end the threat.
The bullpen took over for Tampa in the sixth as LHP Jacob Lindgren made his second T-Yanks appearance. The Yankees first pick of the 2014 draft worked one and two-third innings, allowing an infield single and two walks while striking out three.
The Yankees scored their final run in the seventh. Trent Garrison led off with a single off RHP Robert Coles. A sacrifice bunt by Anderson Feliz advanced the runner before Danny Oh picked up an RBI single to right-center field.
RHP Brett Gerritse retired all four batters he faced in relief of Lindgren. Cesar Vargas pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, earning his fourth save of the season for Tampa.
Aaron Judge went 2-for-4 and now has five multi-hit games in his last six contests. Jagielo went 2-for-4, with his 11th home run of the season. Bichette hit his ninth long ball, going 1-for-4.
The series continues on Monday at 7:00 p.m when RHP Rafael De Paula (5-5, 4.30 ERA) takes the hill for Tampa. RHP Domingo Tapia (4-6, 4.08 ERA) is scheduled to start for St. Lucie.
