Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release

LEOMINSTER, Mass. - The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs are excited to announce the signings of pitchers Rob Bertucci and Kyle Zaorski.

"It's great to add Bertucci and Zaorski to the Dirt Dawgs roster for 2013," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations. "In baseball, you can never have enough pitching. With the addition of two more quality arms to our rotation, we are confident in our pitching depth for this season."

Bertucci will be joining the Dirt Dawgs after completing his junior season at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT competes in the Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference.

Bertucci, a 6-foot 3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, made 12 relief appearances for MIT, going 3-0 with 16 strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA. He played an important role in the Engineers reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years and finishing with a 27-13 record, breaking the school record for wins in a season.

The Belleville, Ill native was a 2010 graduate of St. Louis University High School, where he was a three-time letter winner in baseball. Off the diamond, Bertucci is majoring in computer science and electrical engineering.

Bertucci is looking to develop his game while spending the summer with the Dirt Dawgs.

"I'm really excited about playing in the Futures League. I know there's a lot of good competition that will help me improve for the spring season," said Bertucci. "Depending on what my role is, whether I'll be starting or relieving, I'd like to accomplish something similar to what I did in the spring. Also, throwing harder is one of my goals while with the team."

Zaorski, a 6-foot, 195-pound native of Reading, PA, is a left-handed pitcher from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). IUP competes in the Division II Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and finished the season 27-23.

As a sophomore this past season, Zaorski made 15 appearances, starting 8 games for the Crimson Hawks. He finished the season posting a record of 3-5, with 58 strikeouts, a 3.23 ERA, and 2 saves.

The highlight of Zaorski's play this season came on April 14 at Clarion University. He went 7 full innings, striking out 10 while allowing zero earned runs on 2 hits.

Zaorski, a graduate of Muhlenberg High School, is majoring in finance.

The Pennsylvania native is looking forward to his summer with the Dirt Dawgs.

"I'm really excited for the opportunity. It's a great opportunity for me to come and have some fun playing this summer," said Zaorski. "I hope to make myself better and help the team win some games."

"Bertucci and Zaorski are both experienced arms that we are excited about having on our roster," said John Morrison, Owner of the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. "They both have the ability to be starters, relievers, or closers, brining some versatility to the pitching staff. We are excited to see what they can do on the mound this summer."

The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs open their second season at home on Thursday, June 6th at 6:35 p.m.
