The Philadelphia Wings have named forward Jake Bergey as its franchise player for the 2007 season. The National Lacrosse League allows each team to declare up to two franchise players who each receive the League's maximum veteran salary plus an additional 20-percent.

"Jake really recovered from a couple of injury-plagued seasons and had a great year in 2006," said Wings General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "He has been a huge part of the Wings history and tradition the past ten years and is very deserving of the franchise player tag going into this season."

Bergey was third overall in scoring on the Wings' roster last season with 55 points (27G, 28A). He is third overall in all-time points scored (448) and has been a member of two Wings Championship squads (2001, 1998).

The designation of franchise player will guarantee the return of Bergey, a free agent, to the Wings for the 2007 season. NLL teams are permitted to sign free agents starting tomorrow.
