LAREDO, Texas - The 2005 Southern Conference Champion Laredo Bucks announced today live on the 6 o'clock KGNS news that they have signed forward Hans Benson to a contract for the 2005-06 CHL season. Benson spent his rookie season with the Bucks and helped the team advance to the President's Cup Finals. He is the nineteenth player signed by the Bucks this off season and the eighth returnee. Laredo Bucks season ticket holders enjoy many exclusive offers that are available only to season ticket holders, such as a personalized ticket representative, name in the program, and the ability to redeem unused tickets. Benson, a native of Menlo Park, California, had four goals and 13 assists and was one of three Bucks to play in all 60 regular season games. He added 196 penalty minutes, second on the Bucks team and third among all CHL rookies.

"Benny is a great kid who is competitive and comes to play every night," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "He challenges guys on the other teams that have reputations for altercations. He works hard in practice and games and that is my type of player. He is a welcome addition back to the Bucks."

Benson, 6'0" 195-pounds, scored a one punch knockout in his professional debut last season against San Angelo. The tough American born forward became a fan favorite at the LEC. His first career goal came against Austin on November 16th.

He spent the last season of his junior hockey career with the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in 2003-04. He had 12 goals, 21 assists, as well as a team and league leading 371 PIMS in 55 games. Selkirk was 44-18-1 in the regular season and captured the MJHL playoff championship this past season.

Benson spent with 2002-03 season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Nipawin Hawks where he played with former Buck Bobby Chad Mitchell.

Training camp opens this coming Monday, October 10th. The CHL regular season will start on October 21st. The Bucks open at home on October 29th.
