The Bells prevailed for their 7th straight home win Tuesday night, beating Yakima 5-1. Pitching was key for the Bells tonight as the staff only allowed one un-earned run to score on 5 Pippins hits. They were also able to get to previously unbeaten Yakima starter Gavin Velasquez for 5 runs.

The Bells started the game off hot in their half of the first inning after a 1-2-3 first from Spencer Howard. Andru Cardenas led the inning off with a single to right field and after a perfectly placed bunt from Gunnar Schubert the Bells had runners on first and second. After a strikeout and a fielder's choice Jake Vieth stepped up to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd and did not disappoint. Vieth ripped a single to right center field to score Cardenas, but the runner on first rounded third too far and was caught in a rundown to end the inning, yet the Bells still led 1-0.

The two pitching staffs exchanged zeroes until the eigth inning, when the Bells slammed the doors on the Pippin's fingers and put the game out of reach. With one out Gunnar Schubert started things for the Bells with his third hit on the night a single up the middle, and after a strikeout the Bells went into two out rally mode. After a walk from Mitchell Robinson Jake Vieth picked up his third hit of the game, a ground rule RBI double to deep left to drive in Schubert from second and gave the Bells a 2-0 lead. That would bring up catcher David Banuelos with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Banuelos crushed a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right center for a 3 run homer to extend the lead to 5-0 the first homerun by a Bell at home this year.

Starter Spencer Howard was dominant in his five innings of work tonight. He gave up no runs on 2 hits and ended up striking out 8 Pippins batters. The dominant effort only lasted 5 innings because Howard was on a strict pitch count, and if not we could have had some even higher strikeout numbers. The relievers for the Bells on Tuesday were just as good as Tyler Palm spun two innings of scoreless work in the 6th and 7th and Sam Hellinger continued his success on the hill closing it out with only one unearned run in 2 innings of work.

The hitting stars for the Bells tonight were Gunnar Schubert (3-4, 2B, R, SB), Jake Vieth (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Andru Cardenas (2-4, R, SB) and David Banuelos with the big 3 run bomb to close it out.

The Bells take the field again tomorrow Wednesday June 22nd for their second game of the three game series against the Yakima Valley Pippins at 7:05.
