Bells Fall to Victoria
July 31, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bellingham Bells News Release
The Bells struck first in today's game. Jake Vieth started things in the 2nd with a leadoff single and Danny Casals followed with a single of his own. After Justin Polzin bunted them over the Bells had runners on 2nd and 3rd. Christian Jones, the newest addition to the Bells then lined one up the middle that the pitcher knocked down and threw to 1st base to get the out, but Vieth scored on the play to give Jones a RBI. The next batter Matt DiLeo then stepped up and delivered a RBI single to make the score 2-0 Bells.
Victoria struck back for a run of their own in the 4th. Austin Guibor got things started with a walk and a single from Brad Pluschkell moved him around to third. A batter later Ben Polshuk was able to drive Guibor in with a RBI fielder's choice and the game moved to the bottom of the 4th with the score at 2-1 Bells.
The HarbourCats were allowed to take the lead in the 5th. Ryan Anderson got things started with a single up the middle and PJ Floyd reached via a walk. Riley Guntrip then laid down a bunt to move them over, but an errant throw down the right field line allowed both runners to score. On the relay back into the infield the ball was overthrown at third in attempt to throw out the advancing Guntrip, and that allowed him to score as well. The little league homerun gave the HarbourCats the lead at 4-2.
The HarbourCats were able to extend their lead in the 8th. They put up three runs on 4 singles in the inning and that extended their lead to 7-2. Victoria tacked on 2 more runs in the ninth to make the final score 9-2.
A positive note for the Bells was Dean Lawson who was 2-4 in the game. Gio Lopez also had a nice start with 7 strikeouts in 5.1 innings, but was a victim of some tough luck.
The Bells take the field again tomorrow Monday August 1st for their first game of a three game series against the Kelowna Falcons at 7:05. Pre-game coverage starts at 6:35 on mixlr.com/bellinghambells with Tom Prizeman. To purchase tickets visit http://bellinghambells.com/home/ or call (367) 527-1035.
