Bells Add Three Players to 2015 Roster

The Bellingham Bells have added three players to the 2015 roster, the team announced today. UCLA commit Justin Hooper, University of Maine's Jake Marks and Southern Mississippi's Chase Scott will join the Bells during summer 2015.

Hooper, a six-foot-seven inch left-handed pitcher from Concord, Calif., is a high school senior at De La Salle High School and a 2016 UCLA commit. As a junior at De La Salle in 2014, Hooper went 6-3 with a 2.04 ERA and 58 strikeouts. In March 2015, Hooper was named to Perfect Game's Preseason First-Team All American team and the All-California Region team.

"Justin Hooper is an outstanding prospect who has a very firm fastball in the mid nineties," Bells pitching coach and recruiting coordinator Jim Clem said. "He is one of the top prospects in the country and is known for being a young man with high character. As a young player, he has a very high ceiling for being a dominating pitcher and we are really looking forward to working with him and watching him continue to develop as he begins his baseball career after high school."

Marks, a junior right-handed pitcher for the University of Maine, is a native of Sarnia, Ontario. As a sophomore for the Black Bears in 2014, he pitched primarily out of the bullpen, where he held teams to zero runs in three of his outings. In 2013, Marks was named one of Maine's Scholar-Athlete "Rising Stars" and also received the America East Conference's Rookie of the Week honors.

"Jake Marks is a hard throwing right-handed pitcher from the University of Maine and as a junior, he will bring maturity to our staff," Clem said. "One of the great things about Jake is that he fills a lot of needs for us, as he has been both a starter and a reliever, and it is likely he will do both for the Bells as well. No question, we expect Jake to be a key performer for the Bells this summer!"

A five-foot-eleven infielder from Hampton, Ga., Scott is a junior at Southern Mississippi. Scott was recently named as Conference USA's "Hitter of the Week" after extending his hitting streak to 21 games. On the season, he is batting .299 and has been one of the leading run producers on a very good Southern Miss team.

"We are happy to announce that Chase Scott is our first player to come from Southern Mississippi University, which has a very proud baseball tradition," Clem said. "Chase has been a key player on his college team, hitting in the 3, 4, or 5 hole in their line-up this season. He is a versatile player that can play the infield and outfield, and is a solid offensive performer who also hits with power. As a junior with experience, he will surely be a leader on our team."
