Bellingham Slam News Release
Bellingham, WA. The ABA Bellingham Slam professional basketball team, beginning play in November, has announced the first annual Slam Basketball Festival coming this Saturday, September 17th to Whatcom Pavilion beginning at 1pm. The festival will combine a free 3-on-3 basketball tournament with the Slam's final player tryout camp. The tournament is open to boys and girls in 4th through 9th grades. Also included in the day's activities will be a kid's dunk contest and three-point shootout. Prizes will be given away throughout the day and free food will be provided tournament participants. The schedule is as follows:
1pm-5pm 3-on-3 Tournament
5pm-530pm Kid's Dunk Contest and Three-Point Shootout
530pm-6pm Slam Tryout Participants Warm up
6pm-8pm Slam Tryout Camp Scrimmage
The scrimmage beginning at 6pm will be the culmination of the Slam's summer-long tryout process, pitting Slam roster hopefuls against one another in a full-length game using ABA rules. It will be the players' final chance to impress Slam coaches before final cuts begin and will be the first opportunity for fans to see Caleb Gervin and Kevin Woodberry, signed last month as the first players in team history. Admission to the scrimmage is free.
The deadline to sign up for the 3-on-3 tournament is Friday afternoon. To sign up a team or to get more information, call the Slam office at 360 734 SLAM or visit the Slam's website at www.bellinghamslam.com or www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
