Nashville SC News Release
OTTAWA - As Nashville goes up north to play its lone international game of the season, we take a look at what the Ottawa Fury FC and the Ottawa press are saying about Nashville SC in advance of the game.
Saturday afternoon will be Ottawa's first home game of the season. Ottawa head coach Nikola Popovic is excited to be back home in front of the Fury fans.
"It's very good to be here, back at the stadium," said Popovic to the club's website. "It has a very good energy and with the way we're playing, this large space suits us very well."
Popovic sees Nashville SC as a bit like FC Cincinnati from its season last year in the USL Championship before it made the transition to Major League Soccer.
"We can say that Nashville is a bit like Cincinnati last year," added Popovic. "A team that next season will be in MLS. They brought some very good players, so it will be a very good assessment for us to see how we can compete against these strong opponents."
He's not the only one who sees Nashville SC as one of the strongest teams in the USL Championship. The Ottawa Sun, a local newspaper that covers the Fury, considers Nashville to be one the preseason favorites to end Louisville City's two-year run as USL champions.
"Nashville is generally considered one of the pre-season favourites to end Louisville's two-year USL Cup reign," said Don Campbell of the Sun. "Their early record of a win, loss and a draw through three games shouldn't be fooling anyone. The Fury FC will have all they can handle when the home half of the season kicks off on Saturday just after 2 p.m. on The Pitch at TD Place."
Ottawa forward Christiano Francois gave insight to the club's website on how his team has prepared for its home opener.
"So far it's been very good," said Francois. "We've been preparing for about eight weeks now, and you can see it in the two games we've played already - even the exhibition games - so I think we're ready for Nashville. We're just going to play our game."
