Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Salt Lake Bees walked-off the Tacoma Rainiers 5-3 Sunday night in twelve innings. It was their longest game played this season in terms of innings played and it was also just the third time in franchise history that Salt Lake has won on a walk-off on Pioneer Day. With the win, the Bees ended up taking two of three from the Rainiers and winning their second-consecutive series.

Kean Wong provided the fireworks as he hit the game-winning, two-run double in the bottom of the twelfth. Jake Gatewood hit the game-tying, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Salt Lake the opportunity to win in extra innings.

David MacKinnon was a triple short of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run. In his first game back with Salt Lake, he extended his on-base streak to 28 games, dating back to May 17. Monte Harrison went 2-for-3 giving him four hits in his first two games back with the Bees and Jose Rojas extended the longest active hitting streak in the PCL to 13 games. Touki Toussaint started the game on the mound for Salt Lake and put together his best outing as a Bee. The veteran went 4.1 innings and gave up one unearned run on one hit while striking out three batters.

MacKinnon hit his solo shot in the third inning, breaking a scoreless tie. It was his 14th home run of the season and his second-consecutive game with a blast, despite 38 days between home runs.

Tacoma tied the game in the fifth inning and then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth. They would add one more run in the ninth and would seem primed to head back to Washington with the win.

Harrison opened the bottom of the ninth with a double and the following batter was Gatewood who hit a moonshot to tie the game and keep the Bees alive.

Neither team could bring a runner across until the 12th inning when Tacoma took a 4-3 lead, taking the Bees down to their final three outs once again. David Fletcher opened the inning with a single and Jose Rojas walked to load the bases. Wong drilled the second pitch he saw over the head of Jarred Kelenic in center field and gave Salt Lake the 5-4 victory.
