Burlington, IA (April 6, 2009) - The Burlington Bees, the Single-A Midwest League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, are pleased to announce their 2009 opening day roster. The roster is highlighted by first-basemen Eric Hosmer, who was taken third overall by the Royals in the 2008 amateur entry draft.

The roster also includes twelve players who spent time with the Bees during the 2008 Midwest League Championship season. The twelve players are: pitchers Barry Bowden, Luis Cota, Brent Fisher, Sam Runion, and Zach Peterson; infielders Antonio Jimenez, Kyle Martin, Alwin Perez, and Juan Rivera; and outfielders Nick Francis, Wilson Tucker, and Nick Van Stratten.

The roster will include three catchers, seven infielders and four outfielders. There will be 13 pitchers on the roster, which includes four left-handers.

Fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2009 Bees on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. when they take on Southeastern Community College in an exhibition game at Community Field.

Bees' fans are also invited to the annual "Meet the Bees" event, which will be held on Wednesday night. The event will begin at 6:00 at Fun City. Tickets for the evening will be available at the door. The cost for the event is $10 and will include refreshments and a pizza buffet. All Bees players, coaches and front office staff will be at the event.
