Bees Head to Fresno for Three
July 5, 2017 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release
The first-place Salt Lake Bees begin their final road trip of the first half with a three-game series against the Fresno Grizzlies, July 4-6 at Chukchansi Park in Fresno.
Salt Lake leads the Pacific Coast League's Pacific Southern division by six and a half games, and heads to Fresno after a 5-3 homestand. The Bees took three of four from Reno and split a four-game series with Las Vegas, and Cesar Puello, Shane Robinson and Ramon Flores led a hot Salt Lake offense throughout the homestand. After hitting one homerun in his first 17 games with the Bees, Puello slugged five longballs in seven games during the homestand and has recorded at least one hit in 21 of his 24 games with Salt Lake. Robinson collected multiple hits in six of his seven games during the homestand, has recorded multiple hits in nine of his last 11 contests, and leads the Bees with 27 hits since returning to the Salt Lake lineup on June 16. Flores notched at least one hit in all seven of his starts on the homestand and enters the Fresno series on a season-long 12-game hitting streak.
The Bees and Grizzlies met seven times in the first 20 games of the season, but have not faced each other since April 25. Salt Lake won six of those seven April meetings, including three of four at Chukchansi Park. The Bees scored two unconventional walk-off victories against the Grizzlies in April, with Ryan LaMarre drawing a base-loaded walk on April 15 and LaMarre scoring the winning run on a Reymin Guduan balk on April 16. Robinson leads all active Bees with nine hits against Fresno, while Rey Navarro has scored a team-high eight runs against the Grizzlies and hit the Bees' only homerun against Fresno pitching in the teams' first seven meetings.
Fresno enters the series on an 11-game winning streak, the longest active winning streak in the PCL. The Grizzlies offense ranks second in the PCL in runs scored, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage, and leads the league with 115 homeruns. Derek Fisher leads Fresno and ranks fifth in the PCL with 18 homers, while Preston Tucker and Colin Moran rank fourth and fifth in the league respectively with 60 and 59 RBIs. Tyler White 's 56 runs scored are fifth-most in the PCL this season, and Tony Kemp ranks seventh among qualified hitters with a .329 batting average.
The Bees return to Smith's Ballpark after the All-Star break for a four-game series against the Sacramento RiverCats beginning Thursday, July 13. For tickets and additional information, visit slbees.com.
