New Britain Bees News Release
Despite entering the game with the league's fourth best ERA, Cole Johnson struggled through the majority of his sixth start of the season. After a quick ten pitch first inning, the revolution jumped all over Johnson in the second. First baseman Telvin Nash and right fielder Michael Burgess greeted Johnson with back-to-back home runs to deep right-center to start the inning, with Nash's long ball giving him a league leading ten on the season. York would tack on another run in the inning thanks to a passed ball with a runner on third.
After giving up two more runs in the third, Johnson departed after the fifth inning having surrendered five runs (four earned) on six hits. The pitchers who entered in relief of Johnson, however, also had trouble with York's offense. York would tack on three more runs against the Bees' bullpen courtesy of two more home runs- a solo shot off the bat of Joel Guzman in the seventh and a two-run blast from Josh Wilson in the eighth.
The Bees offense got off to a great start against former big league pitcher Tony Pena in the first inning thanks to a long two-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Craig Maddox with Brandon Chaves aboard. Brand new Bee Michael Crouse was the catalyst behind the Bees' other two runs, which came in the bottom of the seventh. Crouse tripled off the centerfield wall with two outs to bring home Kevin Rivers, then dashed home on a wild pitch by Micah Owings for the Bees final run of the night.
The Bees will try to take the rubber game of the series against the Revolution tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 with right-hander Josh Zeid getting the ball for New Britain. The Revolution will counter with lefty Kelvin De La Cruz. Tomorrow is also Hardware City Family Fun Day, featuring a pre-game on-field autograph session and the the opportunity for kids to run the bases after the game.
