New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, Conn.) With rain bearing down on New Britain, the New Britain Bees chose the perfect time to have a big inning, scoring three in the fifth inning en route to a 5-2 rain-shortened win over the Bridgeport Bluefish.
PITCHERS OF RECORD- W: Josh Outman (1-2) | L: R.J. Hively (0-3) | SV: Brandon Fry (1)
After the Bluefish had scored twice off Bees' starter Josh Outman in the top half of the fifth on RBI hits from Dan Johnson and Wilkin Ramirez, the Bees answered back with three two-out runs off Bluefish starter R.J. Hively. After back-to-back walks to Brandon Chaves and James Skelton, outfielder Greg Golson roped a double to right-center field to knock both runners home. Golson would score with the third run of the inning when the next batter- third baseman Jovan Rosa- lined a single to left, giving the Bees a 4-2 lead.
Despite working into trouble in nearly every inning, Outman was able to keep the Bluefish off the board for five of his six innings of work. The left-hander struck out four while earning his first win as a member of the Bees.
Outman received help from his offense early in the game. After James Skelton drew a walk to open the game for the Bees, Rosa drove home the Bees' catcher with a sharp single to center for his first RBI of the night. The Bees' offense would receive one more run in the game thanks to a home run to right off the bat of second baseman Jonathan Roof, which was his first of the season.
The Bees and Bluefish will finish the three-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader (due to Friday night's rainout). New Britain will send right-handers Brian Dupra and Cole Johnson, while Bridgeport will counter with right-hander David Anderson and left-hander Jimmy Patterson.
