Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, TX: January 11, 2005 – A special announcement was made Monday night at the Central Hockey League All-Star Banquet in Laredo to kick off the 2005 CHL All-Star Game festivities, as the CHL announced the City of Hidalgo and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees will serve as the host of the 2006 CHL All-Star Game. Hidalgo Mayor John David Franz and Bees General Partner Trey Medlock were on hand for the announcement and they revealed the all-star game logo.

"The stars will fall upon the Valley," said Killer General Partner Trey Medlock. "This is an opportunity for our organization, the Valley and our fans to showcase themselves to the league and also gives the opportunity for the CHL's best players to showcase themselves to our fans."

The exact days of the all-star event will be announced at a later time, but is projected for mid-to-late January or early February, and the festivities will involve a banquet, skills competition, game and additional fan oriented events with players. The events will primarily take place at the Dodge Arena. It will be the 13th overall All-Star Game for the CHL (including the inherited all-star games from the Western Professional Hockey League), the eighth solely under the CHL label and the seventh overall to be played in Texas (third time in Texas solely under the CHL tag). The WPHL held their previous Texas based all-star events in Amarillo (2000), Austin (1999), Central Texas (Belton, 1997), and Odessa (2001), while the CHL has held Texas based all-star events in Corpus Christi (2002) and this season in Laredo. The WPHL and CHL league merged after the 2000/2001 season and statistical data was merged as well.

"The short history of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees is the reason why the 2006 All-Star Game is coming," said CHL President Brad Treliving, "With the franchise winning the CHL Franchise of the Year honor last season, what they (the organization) do on a day-in day-out basis, anyone attending will be treated to a first class experience with the Bees as their host."

Any logo requests or additional info concerning the all-star game in Hidalgo can contact Chris Due with the Killer Bees (956-843-7825) or Steve Cherwonak with the Central Hockey League (480-949-8600). The 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star events continue tonight in Laredo with the Laredo National Bank CHL Skills Competition before closing Wednesday with the All-Star Game at the Laredo Entertainment Center.

The 2004/2005 season is currently underway and the Bees are currently swarming throughout the Central Hockey League. The Bees return to action at the Dodge Arena Friday as they host the Colorado Eagles. Individual tickets are on sale now and may be obtained at any Dodge Arena ticket outlet, online (www.dodgearena.com) or over the phone at 866-RIO-TIXX.
