April 19, 2010 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers today announced the team will conduct a series of summer baseball camps, presented by Nike, at PGE Park in 2010 as part of its annual camps program.
Beavers Nike summer camps are led by head camps instructor Tommy Sandt, a former Beavers coach and player, as well as select members of the 2010 Beavers team. The 2010 camps schedule includes three youth summer camps and a pair of one-day advanced clinics. All camps and clinics feature professional instruction in a fun and educational environment.
The youth summer camps provide instruction in hitting, pitching fielding and throwing, while the one-day clinics will focus on specific skill sets such as hitting or pitching for older players. For a second season, Nike will implement elements of their SPARQ training, a program emphasizing stretching and agility exercises, into all Beavers camps.
The slate of Beavers Nike youth camps begins with a two-day camp June 19-20, followed by three-day camps on July 16-18 and Aug. 17-19. The June camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., while the three-day camps last from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Each participant receives professional, on-field training from the Beavers, an official camp t-shirt and flex tickets (two tickets for three-day camps and four tickets for the lone-two-day camp) to an upcoming game at PGE Park. The youth camps are open to kids ages 6-12; and cost $125-$150.
The Beavers' two advanced, specialized clinics this summer are available to players ages 12-16. Also led by Sandt, a hitting clinic will take place Wednesday, July 21, and a pitching/catching clinic on Saturday, Aug. 14; space is limited. Each clinic will be a two-hour session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Participants will also receive an official camp t-shirt and tickets to a Beavers game. The registration fee for each clinic is $75.
Discounts on camp registration are available, including a 10 percent discount for members of the Beavers Kids Club. Visit www.portlandbeavers.com for details.
