Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - Penalty trouble put the Generals back on their heels Monday afternoon. They fell 6-1 to the Barrie Colts before a sold out crowd of 5,902 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Barrie scored 4 on the power play and netted 3 goals in the opening 8 minutes of the game. Ivan Telegin completed the hat trick and Steven Beyers registered 3 assists. Lucas Lessio scored the lone goal for Oshawa, and the Generals' power play went 0/5 in the loss. Despite the final score, Oshawa outshot Barrie 34-29 on the afternoon. Oshawa is now tied with Mississauga for 6th place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Unfortunately, the first period played out like a recap of Saturday's contest. Once again, the Colts scored early and often: they tallied 3 goals before the 8 minute mark. Ivan Telegin opened scoring for Barrie at 1:23. Tanner Pearson and Telegin then both tallied power play goals. After 1, The Colts led 3-0, but Oshawa had the shot advantage, 14-7.
The Generals got 1 back in the second period, but a lengthy list of infractions set the stage for 2 Barrie power play goals. The first came at 1:47 from Telegin for the hat trick.
Back-to-back Colts' 2 man advantages made matters worse when Colin Behenna put the Colts up 5-0. Lucas Lessio score what would prove to be the only Generals goal at 18:22. Oshawa headed to the dressing room in a 5-1 hole, but maintained a slight shot edge, 24-23.
The Colts added 1 more at 16:24 in the third when Anthony Camara made it 6-1.
This upcoming weekend, the Generals head south of the border, making stops in Plymouth and Saginaw. Friday February 24th's game vs. the Whalers starts at 7:05 PM and can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.
After a 4 game road trip, the Generals return home on Sunday March 4th to battle the London Knights. It's London's first trip to the General Motors Centre this season. Faceoff goes at 2:05 PM.
