Bears Promote Cerny To Director of Public Relations

NEWARK, NJ-Chris Bryan, Vice-President and General Manager of the Newark Bears baseball club, announced today that Jim Cerny has been promoted to the position of Director of Public Relations, replacing Ross Blacker who left the team to pursue other opportunities in sports.

Cerny, who will continue in his role as Director of Broadacsting and as the voice of the Bears, spent the past five seasons with the New Jersey Jackals in the Northern and Northeast Leagues. He served as the team's broadcaster and Director of Media Relations from the team's inception in 1998 through the 2002 season. While with the Jackals, Cerny called three league championships, two league all-star games and one no-hitter.

During the baseball off-season, Cerny covers hockey for The New York Times. He also spent seven seasons in the New York Islanders broadcast booth, four as the lead play-by-play announcer. In addition, Cerny has hosted a talk show for the National Hockey League, handled the play-by-play duties for the Northeast Ten Conference football game-of-the-week package and has worked for ABC Radio Sports and Sports Phone, among other outlets.
