
Bears Add Tim McGauley from Brandon, Two from ECHL

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that forward Tim McGauley has been reassigned to Hershey following the completion of his junior season, and goaltender Vitek Vanecek has been reassigned from the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. Additionally, forward Dylan Margonari has been signed to an amateur tryout agreement. The announcements were made by Bears President/General Manager Doug Yingst.
McGauley, 20, joins the Bears after finishing his fourth full year of junior hockey with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings. McGauley enjoyed a stellar career in Brandon, culminating with a WHL championship in 2015-16. In 51 regular-season games, McGauley recorded 49 points (22 goals, 27 assists) while adding 26 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in the WHL playoffs. He finished tied for fifth on the team in regular-season goals, while ranking second in assists and fourth in points during the postseason.
The 6-0, 188-pound native of Wilcox, Saskatchewan led the Wheat Kings in goals (42), assists (63), points (105) and plus-minus (+43) in the 2014-15 season, and ranked second in postseason points (8-11-19). He was named the Eastern Conference player of the year, and was a finalist for the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy honoring the overall WHL player of the year. In 271 career games with Brandon, McGauley has recorded 259 points (102 goals, 157 assists).
Vanecek, 20, made his AHL debut on April 17 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, making 25 saves and going perfect in a shootout in Hershey's 2-1 win. He earned the game's first star.
Vanecek posted a record of 18-7-6 in 32 appearances in South Carolina with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.03 and save percentage of .917. He ranked second among all ECHL goaltenders in goals-against average during the regular season and tied for second in shutouts.
The native of Havlickuv Brod, Czech Republic was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team, and added two league monthly honors: the Warrior Hockey/ECHL Goaltender of the Month of March and the CCM/ECHL Rookie of the Month of November.
Vanecek brings abundant experience on the international stage, having represented his native Czech Republic at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championships held in Finland and the 2015 World Juniors held in Toronto and Montreal. He earned the silver medal at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Championships, posting a 4-2-0 record. He was selected by the Washington Capitals in the second round (39th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
The 24-year-old Margonari returns to the club on his second tryout after a two-game pro debut with the Bears on April 16 and 17. He first joined the team after completing his senior season at Minnesota State University - Mankato (WCHA), where he notched 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 30 games, earning WCHA Scholar-Athlete and 2015-16 All-Academic Team honors in the process.
The 6-1, 190-pound forward, who hails from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, lettered in all four years at Minnesota State. In his career, Margonari notched a total of 66 points (38 goals, 28 assists) in 143 games. He was also selected as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete and earned All-Academic Team honors in 2014-15 and in 2013-14. Prior to his collegiate career, Margonari spent three seasons with the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms, where he posted 59 points (32 goals, 27 assists) in 133 games.
