Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
Boise, ID (June 2, 2003) â The Yakima Sun Kings announced today that head coach Bill Bayno will return for the 2003-04 season, his second in the CBA. The announcement was made during a press conference in Yakima.
"I am very happy to be back in Yakima with the Sun Kings," said Bayno. "Yakima is a great community and the fans, sponsors and organization have been great to me."
Bayno led the Sun Kings to the third CBA title in team history, defeating the Grand Rapids Hoops 117-107 on March 24th. The Sun Kings finished the regular season with a 28-20 record, good for second place in the National Conference. Yakima then defeated the Dakota Wizards, 3-games-to-1, in the National Conference Finals to advance to the title game.
"We are very pleased to bring Bill back to the Sun Kings and the Yakima Valley," said Sun Kings Managing Partner Darren Uceny. "Bill is the top coach in the CBA and we look forward to having him back on the SunDome sidelines this season."
Bayno won three conference championships and earned four post-season berths in five seasons with UNLV (1995-2000). His resume also includes assistant coaching positions under University of Memphis Head Coach John Calipari (Massachusetts, 1988-95), new Detroit Pistons Head Coach Larry Brown (Kansas, 1986-87), and San Antonio Spurs assistant P.J. Carlesimo (Seton Hall, 1985-86).
In 1985 the Sacred Heart (Farfield, CT, 1985) product earned Division Two All-American honors and participated in the New York Knicks Free Agent Camp.
