Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
Boise, Idaho (October 17, 2002)- The Continental Basketball Association and the Yakima Sun Kings announced at a Wednesday press conference that former UNLV Head Coach Bill Bayno has been named head coach of the Sun Kings. Bayno won three conference championships and earned four post-season berths in five seasons with the Running Rebels (1995-2000). His resume also includes assistant coaching positions under University of Memphis Head Coach John Calipari (Massachusetts, 1988-95), Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Larry Brown (Kansas, 1986-87), and San Antonio Spurs assistant P.J. Carlesimo (Seton Hall, 1985-86).
"We're very excited to have the opportunity to get a coach with Bill's credentials," said Rich Austin, Sun Kings Director of Team Operations. "I think he will bring the fast-paced, up-tempo brand of basketball to Yakima that Sun Kings fans are used to."
Last season Bayno led Mobiline of the Philippines Basketball Association to the PBA Finals, losing in seven games to the defending champions. In 1985 the Sacred Heart (Farfield, Conn., 1985) product earned Division Two All-American honors and participated in the New York Knicks Free Agent Camp.
