BayHawks to Play Twice on National TV
November 2, 2010 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, November 2 - The Erie BayHawks will have two games broadcast nationally on the VERSUS network this season, including a live broadcast from the NBA D-League Showcase on January 12 and a tape-delay of the team's final regular season home game on April 2.
Erie's games are part of the second straight year of competition on VERSUS that was announced today. The league's full package includes 11 regular-season D-League games as well as six playoff games, including the 2011 league Finals.
Erie's January 12 live broadcast begins at 8 p.m. ET when they face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers from the site of this year's NBA D-League Showcase in South Padre Island, Texas. The game is the first Showcase game to be aired live by VERSUS and just the second league game to ever be aired live by the network. In addition, VERSUS will air the new Showcase slam dunk and three-point contests live during the three-day event.
Erie's final regular season home game, in which they play the Maine Red Claws, will be aired on tape-delay.
"This is another exciting opportunity for us and our fans, to not only host another game on VERSUS this season, but also to have a chance to watch our team live in primetime at the Showcase," said BayHawks team president Matt Bresee.
Last season the BayHawks were part of two tape-delayed VERSUS broadcasts, one at home on March 20 versus the Dakota Wizards and the other being the team's season-finale against the Maine Red Claws.
The NBA D-League season will tip off on VERSUS when the network presents live coverage of the Texas Legends against the 2009-10 NBA D-League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the head coaching debut of Legends coach and Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, the first female to serve as the head coach of an NBA-affiliated team, on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. ET
The network's NBA D-League coverage will again provide fans with the most access to the game and the players. Some of the enhancements include an increased number of camera angles, micing players and coaches during both games and in-game interviews, and coverage of locker-room and pregame, halftime, and postgame speeches.
VERSUS will also air 25 hours of exciting NBA programming, including profiles of the league's top players, former iconic players, and coaches, as well as other specials highlighting historic moments from recent regular seasons and playoffs.
