BayHawks to Celebrate Black History Month

Erie, Pennsylvania, Monday, February 2, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks have planned a month-long campaign to celebrate Black History Month in partnership with Erie Insurance. The BayHawks join the NBA initiative to honor African-Americans for their contributions that have opened the doors for people around the world.
The BayHawks campaign is highlighted by a pre-game basketball skills clinic to be held by BayHawks coaches on Wednesday, February 18 for select members of the Booker T. Washington and Martin Luther King Centers. Each participant will learn from BayHawks coaches then attend the team's game against the Westchester Knicks that night.
Other notable campaign features include:
- Each game the team will show a video of BayHawks players sharing their thoughts on resilient African-American figures in U.S. history and how their words and actions impact them;
- "Celebrating Black History Month" shooting shirts will be worn by the team during February games;
- Recognition of local community leaders at select games;
- Quotations from historical African-American figures will be posted daily on the team's social media platforms and shown during games on the arena video board;
- Trivia contest each home game in February on African-American history.
The BayHawks play four home games during the month of February (5, 18, 20 and 28) highlighted by the team's annual School Kids Jam game next Thursday versus the Delaware 87ers starting at 11 am.
