Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release
Baltimore, MD (July 28, 2005) - The Baltimore/Boston game on Sunday will mark the first time (A) Mark Millon has played at Johnny Unitas Stadium since being traded to the Cannons in the 2005 preseason. It will not be the first time he has faced his former team, though; that was July 16 in Boston, when he was held to one goal and no assists in the Bayhawks defeat of the defending Americn Division champs.
Two weeks ago, the Bayhawks traveled to Boston to challenge the Cannons in a game that was marked by Bayhawks injuries and Cannons offense. Despite losing three starters, including all-star faceoff man Paul Cantabene, Baltimore surged in the second half to down Boston in front of their home crowd, 20-17. The win came thanks to strong performances from (M) Ben Defelice, winning 19 of 33 faceoffs, (M) Jeff Sonke, scoring three goals in the absence of injured (M) Josh Sims, and (D) Brodie Merrill all but shutting down all-star attackman Mark Millon.
This week, both teams take the field with something to prove against eachother. The Bayhawks, 9-0 on the season, could tie the record for the most wins in a season and clinch the top seed in the playoffs, but more immediately, could win the regualar season series with what is regarded as "the other" best team in lacrosse. The Cannons, who started 5-0 this season before their streak was clipped by the Barrage, would like to do the same to Baltimore and prove that the Bayhawks cannot run the table on both them and the league.
Faceoff on Sunday is scheduled for 6:07pm.
