March 6, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania, Friday, March 6, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (16-22) bested the Canton Charge (22-17) 116-110 in the sixth and final meeting between the teams. The BayHawks used a 15-0 run in the third quarter to regain the lead and never looked back. Free throws played a key factor in the victory as Erie went 32-34 from the line.
Despite Drew Crawford's eight straight points to open up the game, the Charge built a seven-point lead after seven lead changes. Canton finished the opening quarter with seven second chance points compared to Erie's zero, capitalizing on all three of their offensive rebounds.
The Charge lead would grow to as many as ten in the second quarter as Arinze Onuaku picked up where he left off two weeks ago when he tallied 23 points against the BayHawks. Erie was able to cut the game to four by halftime after Drew Crawford, Austin Daye and Seth Curry all scored double digits in the first 24 minutes. Canton outscored Erie 18-2 in second chance points for the half, outrebounding the BayHawks 22-14.
The BayHawks managed to take their first lead since the first quarter midway through the third frame, using a 15-0 run to take advantage. The Charge ended the quarter on an 8-2 run to cut Erie's lead to three.
Peyton Siva and Curry combined for five made threes in seven possessions to give the BayHawks their biggest lead of the game at ten. The Charge would cut it to three again with 1:30 remaining in the game. Canton and Erie traded points for the next minute and a half as Canton had possession with a chance to tie the game with the shot clock off. The BayHawks decided to intentionally foul Onuaku, who missed both free throw attempts. Erie went 6-6 from the line in the final seconds to grab a victory against the Charge for the first time this season.
Curry finished with a game high 33 points on 8 of 15 from three-point land. Siva followed with 21 of his own, his fifth 20+ game of the season. Canton's Onuaku led the Charge with 21 points and 14 rebounds, his 26th double-double in the last 33 games. James Singleton came off the bench to tally 19.
The BayHawks play their third of five straight home games Sunday at 2:00 PM against the division-leading Maine Red Claws for "Salute Our Troops" day.
