
BayHawks Relinquish 16-Point Lead, Fall to Skyforce

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks dropped a close game to the Sioux Falls Skyforce this evening, 85-83.
Erie opened the game playing tough defense, holding Sioux Falls to only 35% shooting in the first quarter. Keith Benson of the Skyforce found some success under the basket for seven points while Alex Davis hit four jumpers for eight points. Benson grabbed a missed three-point attempt in the closing seconds of the quarter and put it back while getting fouled. He added the free throw to close the score to 22-19 in favor of the BayHawks.
Sioux Falls' shooting woes continued into the second quarter. The Skyforce shot only 39% in the half compared to the BayHawks' 47%. Sioux Falls knocked down only one of their eight three-point attempts while Erie hit four of their nine. Alex Davis posted 11 points and seven rebounds in the half. Jarnell Stokes tallied 12 points in the quarter for the Skyforce.
Erie shot only 19% in the fourth quarter. Sioux Falls took advantage and grabbed the lead with 4:22 remaining in the game. Jordan Sibert hit a three with 2:20 left in the game to tie it at 77-77. Eric Atkins followed it up with a three-pointer of his own, allowing the BayHawks to regain the lead. Tyler Harvey hit another three but Stokes powered his way through the lane for two consecutive layups to tie the game up 83-83 with :25 seconds remaining. Coming out of the timeout, Melvin Ejim got an open look but missed the layup. Babu Palu took advantage and made a contested layup for Sioux Falls to retake the lead. With :4 seconds on the clock, Sioux Falls stole the inbounds passed and sealed the victory.
Jarnell Stokes had a game-high 23 points to go with 14 rebounds with eight of those points coming in the fourth. Tre Kelley and Palo each had 12 points.
Jordan Sibert led the BayHawks with 15 points. Melvin Ejim had his third double-double in a row with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Davis posted a double-double of his own with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Harvey posted 14 points behind four three-pointers.
Erie is off until February 10th when they take on the Grand Rapids Drive on the road. The BayHawks return home on Wednesday, February 17th. WNBA star and Erie native Kayla McBride will be at the game signing autographs. Tickets available at www.erie.dleague.nba.com/and1feb/.
