Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks returned home to face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Saturday night after a three game road trip. The two teams traded the lead for much of the game and two Erie attempts bounced out in the closing seconds to give Rio Grande Valley a 105-104 victory.

Dressed in their special blue "Salute Our Troops" uniforms, the BayHawks (23-22) started slowly and trailed the Vipers (28-15) by ten points after the first quarter. Rio Grande Valley took a 14 point lead, their largest of the game, on a Terrence Jones slam dunk midway through the second frame. Mustafa Shakur connected on a three pointer with four seconds remaining in the half cut the deficit to nine points at the break. Erie's Cory Higgins led all scorers with 16 first half points.

The BayHawks caught fire to start the third quarter as they erased Rio Grande Valley's lead in just four minutes. The two teams traded the lead a few times during the remainder of the period before the Vipers took a three point advantage into the final twelve minutes. Erie battled back and cut the lead to one point with 6.3 seconds remaining. Shakur's 15 foot jumper rimmed out and Erik Daniels' buzzer-beating tip didn't fall and the Vipers took the game by a final of 105-104.

Higgins led all scorers with a season-high 35 points. Shakur finished with 17 points, six rebounds and five assists, Henry Sims scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds, Nick Covington scored 11 points and Daniels finished with 10 points and eight rebounds for Erie. Jones, a Houston Rockets assignment player, led the Vipers with 20 points off the bench. Toure Murry (19), Andrew Goudelock (18), Glen Rice (16) and former BayHawk D.J. Kennedy (13) all finished with double-figures for the Vipers.

Erie will travel to Maine for their last road game of the season on Thursday night. Rio Grande Valley continues their road trip when they visit the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Sunday afternoon.
