BayHawks Fall to Canton 102-91

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks and Canton Charge kicked off their 2013-14 seasons tonight at the newly renovated Erie Insurance Arena. Canton charged to a lead four minutes into the game and never looked back, eventually downing the BayHawks 102-91.
After Erie's Mustafa Shakur and C.J. Leslie connected on an alley-oop just four seconds into the game, Canton proceeded to knock down 52% of their first quarter shots to take a 27-20 advantage into the second frame.
The Charge took a 16 point advantage, their largest of the game, on a Kevin Jones lay-up with two minutes remaining in the first half. At the break, Canton held a 35 to 21 rebounding edge over the BayHawks, including a dozen boards from Jones.
Erie managed to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter, eliminating all but two points from Canton's lead with under a minute to go in the stanza. The BayHawks were propelled in the quarter by seven points from Leslie.
Canton pulled away in the fourth quarter as they held the BayHawks to under 30% shooting from the field during the frame. The Charge's Michael Lee scored 10 of his 18 points during the final twelve minutes and Canton closed Erie out by a final score of 102-91.
Both teams had six players score in double-figures. Erie was led by 19 points and six assists from Shakur and 16 points and 7 rebounds from Leslie. Rashad Anderson led the Charge with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was aided by Lee's 18 points and a big effort from Jones, who tallied 15 points and 19 rebounds.
Erie travels to Maine to face the Red Claws on Sunday while Canton returns home to host the league's newest team, the Delaware 87ers for the home opener tomorrow night.
