Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday, March 11 - The Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League have acquired former NBA player Michael Sweetney.

Sweetney was the ninth overall selection of the New York Knicks in 2003. The 6-8, 270 lb. forward spent four years in the NBA including two seasons with the Knicks and two with the Chicago Bulls. During that time he appeared in 233 games and averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Sweetney was in training camp with the Boston Celtics in October and was waived prior to the season.

A native of Washington D.C., Sweetney played collegiately at Georgetown where he ranks seventh on the Hoyas all-time scoring list with 1,750 points.

By acquiring Sweetney the BayHawks filled an open roster spot left vacant when guard Cedric Jackson signed a ten-day contract on Wednesday with the San Antonio Spurs.

The BayHawks begin a three-game road trip on Friday as they visit the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, then travel to play the Idaho Stampede on Saturday and the Utah Flash Monday. Sweetney is expected to join the team either Friday or Saturday.
